Me Made May Plus 2020 Part 1

I wrote this on May 15th, but I am just getting around to posting it. We are halfway through Me Made May (Plus) and I’ve really been enjoying it. Initially I wasn’t really posting much because there was just too much going on. I decided to post a few of my me made outfits after a weird spam account was created that stole my pictures and started sending sketchy messages to people. Oddly enough, it made me want to post more. Anyway, I didn’t make an official pledge for this year, so I’m really going with the flow.

I have really enjoyed seeing everyone’s posts under the various hashtags. In particular, I have been LOVING all the #MMMayPlus2020 posts. There’s been a lot of people using the hashtag, and that makes me so happy. Thank you Jess for amplifying that hashtag and for the @fatsewing.club IG page. I like to go through the stories and see all of the sewists shared on that account. I’ve found several new people to follow, which makes my heart happy. The page lists Jess (@fat.bobbin.girl) and Bronwyn (@prittystitches) as current moderators. The accompanying Fat Sewing Club website is full of great blog posts from the community and you really should check it out. It’s certainly the content I need right now.

I wear garments I’ve made pretty much daily, but I haven’t felt like taking (or sharing) pictures all the time. I thought I’d do a sort of aggregate post of what I’ve been wearing this month. Some of these made Instagram, some didn’t.

First up we have the Cashmerette Alcott dress. I love this dress. It’s fun, comfortable, and just puts me in a good mood. I made the 24 G/H without any adjustments. That is the size and cup size I’ve been using for all Cashmerette patterns recently. The fabric is an animal print ITY from Fine Fabrics.

Next we have a Cashmerette Pembroke dress. I did the midi dress view and omitted the waist ties. This is my kind of t shirt dress. I didn’t hem it because hemming is my least favorite part of the process. This is an Art Gallery Fabric knit from Maker Mountain Fabrics. Go support Grace because she is a lovely human being with very cute fabric.

This outfit was brought to you by confusingly cold weather. I am wearing a black velvet Seamwork Ace top and wool blend Glebe pants from Muna & Broad. The Ace is a blend of several sizes (I forgot to note which sizes) and the Glebe pants are size 1. This outfit gives me 70s vibes and I love that. This outfit is also super comfortable – are you noticing a theme yet?

This is my post-spam-account look. I washed my hair and decided to deep condition. I threw on a head wrap I made a while back and paired it with a Cashmerette Appleton top and Muna & Broad Willandra pants. I hacked the Appleton dress into a top and wore it to Atlanta Frocktails last fall. These Willandra pants are my tester version of the pattern in a viscose linen noil from Blackbird Fabrics. You are going to see these pants a lot in the future because they are SO comfortable and stylish at the same time. Maybe I’ll recreate the whole outfit for lounging in my backyard this summer.

Its another Cashmerette + Muna & Broad mash up. I’m wearing a Montrose top and Glebe pants. I made the gathered back, scooped neck view of the Montrose in a cotton/rayon voile from Blackbird Fabrics. The Glebe pants are made from a viscose twill I picked up from the Sewing Studio.

This dress might be my favorite so far. This is a Cashmerette Appleton dress I made two years ago at Black Women Stitch Beach Week. My sister and I actually both made Appletons on that trip. I reached for this dress because its comfortable and provides just the right amount of warmth. I lengthened it to make it a maxi and accidentally cut two of the larger front panels. I used a double brushed poly knit from LA Finch Fabrics, hence the warmth. The best part about this dress is that you can absolutely wear it without a bra. It turned into a knit robe of sorts, but without that awkward looseness that shows your entire boob.

I like to tell people where I get my fabric from because I love fabric. I’ve mentioned a few fabric shops in this blog post and all of them are currently shipping. No pressure though, these are weird times. We are all dealing with it in different ways. I’m hugging you through the screen and I hope I can hug IRL at some point.
